Alimuddin: SPM and STPM will go on
PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry has not made any decision to postpone the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations in the event of floods in several states.
“We are used to dealing with such situations and there are measures in place in case of floods,” said Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom.
He was speaking to reporters before clocking out for the last time at the ministry on Thursday.
Parent Action Group for Education chairman Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim was reported to have said that SPM candidates evacuated due to the floods should be given ample opportunity to prepare for the examination as studying in a flood relief centre would be difficult for them.
Kedah Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said the examinations should be postponed by at least a week to ensure that the candidates were really prepared to sit for them.
SPM and STPM are scheduled to start on Nov 23 and end on Dec 20 and Dec 16 respectively.
At his retirement ceremony, Alimuddin who was director-general for over three years, thanked his deputies and ministry staff for working as a team.
He also thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Education Ministry Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for appointing him chairman of Yayasan Guru Malaysia Bhd.
